Yes it is possible to have ear pain because of adenoid hypertrophy. It can lead to worse things if left unattended. And removing adenoid will not cause any harm. So getting that surgery done might in fact improve your child’s condition. Though breathing exercises and other medications maybe tried before surgery is resorted to.

my daughter complained of pain in her right ear. her x-ray results showed that she has adenoid hypertrophy. the doctor is saying that surgery is needed. is this really required at first diagnosis? and is the ear pain caused by adenoid hypertrophy?

@ Caroline Waituika - acute infection is best treated with antibiotics, and conservative treatment should be exhausted before surgery is resorted to.

If it is a first time diagnonis of adenoid hypertrophy, would it be advisable to do surgical removal or treat with antibiotics? The child is 2.5 years

I just would like to know what will be the prognosies of the adenoidal hypertrophy that was an outcome of an acute adenoidal infection? Is the child (3-6 years)going to experience mild snorring for a couple of weeks? Is oral steroids play any role in acute management?
