Arthritis is best defined as an ailment caused by damage of different joints of your body. The damage can occur due to trauma, infection or age. The most widespread form of this disease is osteoarthritis. Another form is septic arthritis, which results from infection. Arthritis can also be rheumatoid or psoriatic in nature. Next comes, gouty arthritis that springs from inflammation of the joints caused by uric acid deposits.
When arthritis is severe, conditions can be quite traumatic. The pain can be considerable and your flexibility and daily life gets adversely affected. Infants, who are afflicted, will refuse to use the arthritic limb, whereas the elderly who are suffering from this disease will have restricted movements.
A common question among patients is: should one worry about a clicking knee? The answer would be: If your knee joint produces a clicking noise every time you move it, this is surely a reason to worry about. It is often accompanied by a shooting pain and is caused when excessive gas builds up in your knee cavity. It is a warning of an impending attack of arthritis. The clicking sound will soon be followed with other arthritis symptoms like tenderness, early morning stiffness and locking with inactivity.
Knee joint degeneration due to arthritis could severely affect your movements and cause discomfort and permanent damage. When your knee starts clicking, it’s time to take precautionary measures to ensure the arthritic condition doesn’t get worse. Avoid jerky knee movements. Avoid stress on your knees; walk only short distances, preferably in grassy areas or level, paved roads.
Keep your knees straight while you are sleeping and keep them planted on the ground when at desk. Carrying heavy weights including your heavy shopping bag should also be avoided. Physiotherapy, nutritious diet, safe exercising under a professional trainer and proper medications are the best ways to treat arthritis.
